The Taraba State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Idris A. Goje, has inspected the ongoing construction of Model Schools in Jalingo, describing the projects as a major step toward improving the quality of education in the state.

The inspection visit, which took place on today 11th February, 2026, was aimed at assessing the level of work done on the almost completed Model Schools being executed by the state government as part of its broader free and compulsory education reform agenda under His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Augustina expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects, noting that the Model Schools initiative is designed to provide a more conducive learning environment for pupils and students, while promoting modern teaching standards across Taraba State. She noted some areas of improvement in one the schools visited and the site engineer promised to improve. The schools visited include: Government Comprehensive Secondary School Jalingo, GDSS Nukkai and GDSS Jauro Yinu.

According to her, the Model Schools will help address challenges of inadequate classroom space, poor learning infrastructure, and overcrowding, particularly in the public secondary and primary schools in the state.

In a related inspection, the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary also assessed instructional materials procured by the state government, including textbooks, teaching aids, and other learning resources meant to support effective teaching and learning in public schools.

Dr. Augustina emphasized that the procurement of instructional materials aligns with the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through improved infrastructure, teacher support, and quality learning content.

On his part, Alhaji Idris A. Goje commended the contractors handling the projects for their level of commitment and urged them to maintain quality standards and complete the remaining work within schedule. He emphasized that the ministry is doing everything possible to ensure that the projects qualities are preserved.

The Taraba State Government has continued to prioritize education through the construction of Model Schools, provision of learning materials, and other interventions aimed at enhancing access and improving academic performance across the state.
