FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Office of the Presiding Bishop, Global Methodist Church Nigeria
Date: February 11, 2026

The Global Methodist Church in Nigeria, under the leadership of Presiding Bishop Dr. John Pena Auta, issues this formal appreciation to His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his resolute defense of justice and peace within the Taraba Christian community.

In an open letter addressed to the Governor, the Church lauded the administration’s decisive action in dismantling false narratives and ensuring that the rule of law remains supreme over religious factionalism.

The Church specifically commended Governor Kefas for debunking the misleading claims circulated by breakaway factions of the defunct United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN). The letter highlights the Governor’s intervention regarding a Facebook post dated February 7, 2026, which falsely claimed that the Jatutu Memorial Cathedral—a property belonging to the Global Methodist Church—would host a “reconciliation service” on February 22.

This claim was in direct violation of a standing order from the Jalingo Upper Area Court, which prohibits access to the premises by the disputing parties until a final resolution is reached.

“Your Excellency, your forthright exposure of these distortions has not only vindicated the truth but has decisively safeguarded the peace and order of Taraba State against reckless provocations,” stated Dr. Auta.

Beyond religious matters, the Global Methodist Church recognized Governor Kefas’s broader developmental strides. The Church praised the Governor’s strategic alignment with the Presidential Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that his leadership is effectively:

  • Strengthening state institutions.
  • Unlocking economic opportunities for all citizens.
  • Accelerating infrastructure growth across the state.

The Global Methodist Church in Nigeria reaffirms its unwavering support for the Kefas administration. The Church remains committed to a constructive partnership aimed at the advancement and spiritual well-being of the people of Taraba State.

The letter concluded with prayers for the Governor’s continued strength and wisdom in fulfilling his divine mandate for the state.

Signed:
Dr. John Pena Auta
Presiding Bishop
Global Methodist Church
