The Taraba State Government has commenced the distribution of educational materials to students across the state as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen access to quality education and improve learning conditions in public schools which was earlier flagged off by His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas and the Prime Minister of Grenada on 14th October, 2025.

The development was made known during an official briefing held today Monday 18th May, 2026 at the TY Danjuma Government House by the Commissioner for Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Dr Augustina Godwin alongside the Commissioner for Nursery and Primary Education, Haj. Fatima Tenny Habib and the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hon. Mrs. Mary Sinjen.

Speaking during the event, Dr Godwin on behalf of the other Commissioners stated that the initiative reflects the commitment of the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas towards supporting students and reducing the burden on parents and guardians across the state.

According to her, the distribution exercise covers thousands of students in public schools and includes essential learning and sporting materials aimed at enhancing both academic and extracurricular activities. The materials being distributed include school uniforms, shoes, game wears, textbooks, exercise books, writing materials and other educational items.

She noted that the intervention is part of the government’s broader education revitalization agenda designed to promote inclusive and accessible education for every child in Taraba State. He explained that the provision of the materials would encourage enrollment, improve school attendance and create a more conducive environment for learning.

Again, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of early childhood education, stressing that providing pupils with basic school needs would boost their confidence and academic performance. She commended Governor Agbu Kefas for prioritizing the welfare of school children and sustaining investments in the education sector.

Furthermore, the Commissioner described education as a vital tool for child development and societal growth. She added that the distribution of the materials would particularly support children from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring that no child is denied access to education due to lack of basic school necessities.

The Commissioners assured residents that the distribution process would be carried out transparently and equitably across schools in the state. They further called on parents, teachers and community leaders to support the government’s efforts towards building a stronger and more productive education system in Taraba State.

The initiative has continued to receive commendation from stakeholders who described the gesture as a significant step toward improving the standard of education and promoting the welfare of students across the state.

The schools to receive the first phase include: GDSS Nyamusala and Primary School, Government College Jalingo, GDSS Nukkai, GDSS Howai and Primary School and Government Science Secondary School Jalingo.
