The Taraba State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina Godwin today flagged off the first phase of the EIDU Digital Learning System training for teachers, with Jalingo and Ardo-Kola Local Government Areas selected as pilot LGAs.

The landmark initiative will train 11 officers as master trainers, who will subsequently cascade the digital learning model to other teachers across the state. The EIDU system is designed to strengthen classroom delivery through digital tools, improve learning outcomes, and support data-driven teaching practices.

Delivering welcoming remarks on behalf of the TSUBEB Chairperson, Permanent Member 2 of the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), Dr Zachariah John described the programme as “a bold step toward repositioning basic education in Taraba State for the demands of a digital age.” He commended the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and partners for prioritizing teacher capacity.

In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alh. Idris A. Goje noted that the EIDU rollout aligns with the state’s education reform agenda of His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas. He urged the master trainers to embrace the platform fully and model excellence in their schools.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Education to the Governor, Honourable Samaila Dauda Agbu reaffirmed government’s commitment to equipping teachers with modern skills, stating that “investing in teachers is the most direct way to invest in our children’s future.”

Participants at the flag-off included Directors from the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), TSUBEB, and Education Management Information System (EMIS) officers, Quality Assurance Officers all of whom will support monitoring and evaluation of the programme.

The Commissioner charged the master trainers to see themselves as change agents, emphasizing that the success of the first phase in Jalingo and Ardo-Kola will determine the scale-up to other LGAs.

The EIDU Digital Learning System is expected to provide teachers with structured digital lesson plans, offline learning resources, and real-time coaching support.
