The Taraba State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina Godwin alongside officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has commissioned a block of two classrooms and two offices at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Howai, Mile Six, Jalingo.

The project, renovated by staff of the CBN Jalingo Branch, was executed as part of the Bank’s 2026 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at improving learning environments and supporting educational development in the state.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Dr Godwin commended the CBN for the intervention, describing it as a timely contribution that will enhance teaching and learning in the school in line with the free education policy of His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas. She noted that the state government remains committed to providing quality education and welcomes partnerships that support its vision.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Alh. Idris A. Goje lauded the initiative and expressed optimism that more financial institutions would emulate the gesture of the CBN in contributing to the development of the education sector under the visionary leadership of His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas.

He noted that this kind of intervention is highly commendable hoping that other banks and corporate organizations will take a cue from the Central Bank of Nigeria and invest in the future of our Taraba children.

The event attracted a large turnout, including traditional rulers, education stakeholders, members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), staff, and students of GDSS Howai, who expressed gratitude to the CBN for the renovated facilities.

The newly refurbished classrooms and offices are expected to provide a more conducive environment for both teachers and students, thereby improving academic performance and overall school experience.
