The attention of Comrade Sule Abasu, Chairman Peace and Reconciliation Committee of Karim Lamido Local Government, has been drawn to a recent post of character misrepresentation, defamation, fabrication, concocted and blatant lies presented at the public space by one data boy of United Methodist Church, UMC, known as Salisu Waziri.

The publication written and addressing the Governor of Taraba State His Excellency Kefas Agbu is purely driven along church denominational sentiment and personal vendetta which aimed at discrediting the personality of Sule Abasu and to frustrate the peace efforts of people of Karim Lamido Local Government and confidence reposed in him(chairman).

The emergence of Sule Abasu as the chairman Peace and Reconciliation Committee came as the result of the collective decision of people during peace meeting recently held in Jen, Karim Lamido Local Government as part of the efforts to seek lasting solution to lingering communal clashes,banditry,land dispute and other related matters setting people in pandemonium in the area unabated.

Suffice it say that the appointment of Sule Abasu was made on societal credence, capability, trustworthy devoid of any religious affinity, tribal sentiment. However, the recent post is a calculated game aimed to fan an ember of discord capable of poisoning people’s mind to discredit Sule Abasu and the entire committee.

Recent attempts to mischaracterize the Karim Lamido crisis as a religious conflict between members of the Global Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church are deeply misleading, dangerous, and disrespectful to genuine peace efforts. One such claim reportedly made by Salisu Waziri from Pero in Gombe State, alleging that the unfortunate crisis in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State is rooted in a denominational rivalry, must be clearly and firmly addressed.

The violence that occurred in Karim Lamido is widely known to be a communal crisis between the Karimjo-Wurkun Shomo communities, influenced by longstanding local grievances, misinformation, competing interests, and regrettably, political manipulation. It is not, and has never been, a struggle between Global Methodist and United Methodist members. To reduce such a painful communal tragedy to a mere church rivalry is not only false; it trivializes the suffering of victims and undermines ongoing reconciliation efforts.

This is a time that demands responsibility, truthfulness, and maturity. Turning a communal conflict into a religious narrative is reckless and capable of inciting unnecessary tension, creating distrust among peaceful worshippers, and widening divisions where unity is needed most.

The call by Salisu Waziri for the removal of Mr. Sule Abasu, Chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee, appears to be driven more by denominational sentiment than by sincere concern for peace. Mr. Abasu and the committee have been saddled with the difficult responsibility of restoring calm, promoting justice, and rebuilding trust. Instead of supporting such efforts, attempting to discredit them based on misleading religious claims is unhelpful and unfair.

Peace-building requires cooperation, patience, and credibility. Anyone genuinely committed to peace should encourage dialogue, not sow distrust or push divisive narratives.

It is unfortunate that voices like that of Salisu Waziri would attempt to exploit an already sensitive situation for sectarian or personal motives. Such actions risk deepening misunderstanding and causing further disaffection among people who need healing, not provocation. It is important to warn and appeal to him and anyone sharing similar views to desist from spreading misleading narratives and instead support peace, truth, and unity.

The crisis in Karim Lamido should never be turned into a religious battleground. It is a communal challenge that requires communal responsibility. Peace will only come when misinformation ends and sincere commitment to reconciliation begins.

Testimonies coming from the committee’s work indicates that Sule Abasu has never appear in religious talks nor show interest in the church affairs as contrary to terms of reference issued at the meeting in Jen.

Conclusively, Waziri Salisu should know that presently Abasu is spearheading the Taraba State chapter of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Association of Secondary School Union who erns respect ,confidence through his leadership style.
