Dr. Augustina, the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Taraba State together with the Secretary of the ministry, Mr Benjamin Zantimaba today visited the watchman of Hassan Model Primary School, Jalingo, Malam Adamu Umar who was brutally injured during a theft incident at the school premises. The visit took place at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, where the victim is currently receiving medical treatment.
The watchman was reportedly attacked by suspected thieves in the early hours of Saturday 10th January, 2026 while on duty at the school. He sustained serious injuries while attempting to protect school property from the assailants.
During the visit, Dr. Augustina expressed deep concern over the incident and sympathized with the victim and his family. She commended the watchman’s bravery and dedication to duty, describing his actions as a true display of courage and commitment to safeguarding public property which the ministry and the board must ensure he receives adequate care and attention.
Dr. Augustina also used the opportunity to call on communities close to schools to support the government of the day on improved security measures in public schools to prevent similar incidents in the future. She assured the victim of continued support and encouraged the medical personnel to provide him with the best possible care.
Medical staff at FMC Jalingo and the family confirmed that the watchman is responding to treatment and is being closely monitored.
The incident has drawn attention to the growing need for enhanced security in educational institutions across the state, particularly during non-school hours.
