Dr Augustina Godwin the Honorable Commissioner of Education attended the 15th Matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students into the Taraba State University, Jalingo.
Dr Godwin was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Taraba State, Alh Idris A. Goje and the Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Abel Bako Joachim.
Declaring the occasion opened, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Sunday Paul Bako welcomed the esteemed guest and students to the significant event. He used the opportunity to congratulate them as they began this new chapter in their lives.
The VC encouraged them to explore, discover and grow as they navigate the campus by taking advantage of the state of the art facilities in acquiring knowledge, developing skills, values and character. He lauded the achievements recorded under the able leadership of the visitor of the University, the Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas.
Prof Bako highlighted the achievements made through accreditation of 53 academic programs, professional accreditation of 6 programs, Hostel renovations, 50% reduction in school fees, establishment of two new faculties, installation of solar street lights among others.
In the same development, Dr Augustina further commissioned the War Against Drugs Abuse (WADA) of the Taraba state chapter.
The problem of drug trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs is a serious global concern because of its negative consequences. This problem affects both the offenders, usually those in the trade, and on the other hand, those for one reason on the other uses drugs.
The Commadant, NDLEA Taraba State Command hinted that those individuals that use illicit drugs are part of our society, the society at large is seriously confronted and challenged by the scourge of drug trafficking and drug abuse adding that some of these problems are recorded to manifest themselves in the spheres of health, socio-economic, political and security dimensions of a nation.
Highlights of the event was the investiture of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Bako as the captain incharge of the WADA Taraba state chapter and other notable individuals, cultural dances by the theatre and performing arts students among others.
