TVET2025: THE PERMANENT SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF BASIC AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ATTENDS THE OPENING CEREMONY

The esteemed Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Taraba State, Alh Idris A. Goje attended the opening ceremony of the 2025 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Camp for FSTCs and State Technical Colleges in the Northeast on Tilling and Interlocking at the Federal Science and Technical College Jalingo, Taraba State.

The significant event gathered Vocational and Technical Experts and Officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, representatives of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education Dr Augustina Godwin ably represented by the Permanent Secretary, representatives from the NABTEB, Taraba State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Members of the press, students and teachers from the northeast geopolitical zone.

In his remarks, Idris emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education in shaping the future of our State and indeed the nation, stressing how the world is evolving rapidly, and the job market is becoming increasingly competitive.

He added that it is their responsibility as educators and policy makers to ensure that students are equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge required to succeed in this ever-changing landscape.

Recall that, Taraba state government, under the leadership of His Excellency,Dr.Agbu Kefas the Governor of Taraba State, has Prioritise the Education sector, allocating heavy resources to improve and enhance the education sector and also to revamp our education system.

The Permanent Secretary stated how well they have implemented various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education, increasing access to education, and promoting technical and vocational education.

Essentially, Goje stressed that the free education policy is laudable and the success is in evident noting that the camp is one of their flagship programs designed to provide students with hands-on training and exposure to various technical and vocational skills. He said by providing students with these skills, they are empowering them to become self-sufficient, innovative, and entrepreneurial. Throughout this camp, they will have the opportunity to engage in various activities, including workshops, training sessions, and mentorship programs. They will also have the chance to interact with professionals and experts in various fields, who will share their experiences and provide guidance.

He charged the students to be open-minded, curious, and enthusiastic, ask questions, seek feedback, and learn from their peers and facilitators.

The Permanent Secretary expressed gratitude to facilitators and instructors for their expertise and dedication adding that their role in shaping the minds and skills of our future leaders is invaluable.

He thanked the Federal ministry of Education team involved in organizing this camp and expressed his confidence that this initiative will have a lasting impact on the lives of students and the future of our state.

In her thankful remarks, the Director, Technology and Science Education Department, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Mrs. Olodo M.A on behalf of the Honorable Minister of State (Education) appreciated the AfDB for their generous sponsorship and all the stakeholders that dedicated their time and resources to ensuring the success of this year’s event and officially declared the training opened. The training is from 20th January, 2025 to 8th February, 2025.
