FREE EDUCATION: DR AUGUSTINA VISITS SPECIAL EDUCATION CENTER AND OTHER SCHOOLS; OFFERS FOOD ITEMS AND GIFTS
In the effort to reach even the people with disabilities in the feel of free education, the Commissioner of Education, Taraba State, Dr Augustina Godwin accompanied by a representative from TSUBEB, visited the school of deaf and dumb popularly known as Special Education Center, Mutum Biyu, Gassol LGA.
Upon arrival, Dr Godwin was warmly received by the Principal, Mr Moseh Haliru, staff and students of the institution. The principal hinted the commissioner of the progress and challenges of the school considering the increase in enrollment due to free education and compulsory education of His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas.
Prior to the free education era, the school recorded few students admissions, but now the primary school students are nearly three hundred and eighty two while the secondary school students are two hundred and ninety two which had never happened since the creation of the school in 1995, the principal said.
Special Education Center, is one of the huge beneficiaries of the TR Cares of Dr Agbu Kefas. The school witnessed massive renovations of classrooms, students hall of residences and other facilities. Dr Augustina was there to inspect the projects and had commended the contractors for job well done. She praised the principal, management and staff for their dedication to work and implored them to keep it up while calling on parents with children of such status to send them to school and ensure them a fruitful future no matter what could be the challenges.
Dr Augustina promised to liaise with the commissioner of health to ensure they have a working first aid system for the benefit of the students and the school community.
The commissioner then headed to the Marafa Government Day School Mutum Biyu and Central Primary School Mutum Biyu and had interactions with students, pupils, teachers and corps members serving in the school. The principal Mr Shehu Bakari and the Headmaster Mr Bashar Ibrahim all presented their needs and the commissioner promised to follow it up based on priorities.
Dr Godwin proceeded to the Gassol Local Education Authority secretariat and was received by the Director Personnel Management, Mr Zaharaddeen Yahaya on behalf of the Education Secretary. She used the opportunity to interact with the staff and urged them to put all heads together to ensuring that free education succeed in Gassol.
Highlights of the visit were presentations of food items, books and other gifts to the schools.
