DR AUGUSTINA SUPERVISES SMART SCHOOL PROJECTS IN TAKUM

The Commissioner of Education, Dr Augustina Godwin visited the site of the ongoing construction of Smart School in Takum.

The Commissioner was with the Acting Chairperson of Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), Mrs Rabi Sunday and some of the Directors from the Board and Taraba State Coordinator of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

The visit was necessitated by the need to ensure quality works are done for the proper commencement of the school in the month of September and to further sensitize the host community on how the school will operate and their corporate social responsibility especially in maintaining and sustaining the school for the benefit of their children/wards including the neighboring communities.

The Takum Smart School is part of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Federal Government interventions as a result of counterparts funding by the government of His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State.

The Smart School will deploy modern methods of education through ICTs by using various interactive modules like computer, tablets, interactive whiteboard, projectors, videos, cameras and School Management Software solutions for the learning and management process. The Smart School is provided with the minimum operation requirements for efficient and effective delivery such as; Physical infrastructures, Hardware, Furniture, Software, Smart Classrooms, Library/e-library, Computer, and Science laboratories and workshops”.

The school will provide teachers and learners access to a wide range of educational resources available on the internet and also active participants in the teaching and learning process. The teacher will play the role of facilitator, helping learners to build their capacity to discover new knowledge, acquire new skills, and imbibe positive values.

Additionally, every model of the Smart School is a complex designed to accommodate, ECCDE, Primary School, and the Junior Secondary School Sections each with its Management facilities

Arriving Takum, Dr Augustina was warmly received by the Education Secretary, Takum LEA, Mr. Shehu Danji Babankogi and his management then proceeded to pay homage to the paramount ruler and Chief of Takum His Royal Highness, Barr Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi III to intimate him of the purpose of her visit and to call for synergy and collaboration in the maintenance and effective utilization of the facility. She pleaded for his unwavering support in safeguarding the state of the art facility adding that the good intentions of Dr Agbu Kefas in providing free and compulsory education is not a child’s play hence the need for synergy and collaboration.

Responding, the monarch lauded the pragmatic efforts of the Honorable Commissioner and her team and also expressed his delight for installing such a wonderful edifice in Takum which is the first of its kind in Taraba state. He harped on the need for satellite security station around the school for the safety of the students and staff.

The monarch commended Dr Agbu Kefas for working tirelessly in reengineering the education sector in the state and called for upward review of the Running Cost for effective management of the school.

The Commissioner assured him of His Excellency’s readiness to accepting inputs that will help in changing the educational landscape of Taraba.

On her part, the Acting Chairperson, TSUBEB, Mrs Rabi Sunday commended the ES and staff of Takum LEA for being active in discharging their duties while assuring the monarch that if the school is effectively managed, she is sure it will be upgraded to accommodate the senior secondary section. She thanked the Royal Father for his kind hospitality and fatherly blessings while wishing him God’s guidance throughout his reign.
