DR AUGUSTINA INAUGURATES THE TARABA STATE COMMITTEE ON GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING

In the bid to inculcate good morals and adequate guidance and counseling to Taraba children in the primary, secondary and tertiary educations, Dr Augustina Godwin, Commissioner of Education, Taraba State inaugurated the committee on guidance and counseling.

Delivering the welcome address, Mrs Ishape Audu, Director Guidance and Counseling Department in the Ministry stated that the committee members were experts drawn from Tertiary institutions, Post Primary Schools Management Board, Universal Basic Education Board and Ministry of Education to champion the establishment of guidance and counseling units in all the schools across the state and to revive those that have gone into limbo.

The Commissioner, Dr Augustina Godwin applauded His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas for seeing the need for the establishment and reviving of the Guidance and Counseling in order to give adequate support to the moral upbringings of our children and helping them to choosing the right career paths.

Dr Godwin administered the oath of office to the committee members and charged them to do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed in them. She added that His Excellency is aware of several factors that may influence positively or negatively what a child is learning in the class and it is this awareness that becomes pertinent to the birth of this committee.

Additionally, in his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alh Idris A. Goje stressed that, the inauguration of the committee is yet another milestone in the implementation of Dr Agbu Kefas’s free education policy. He noted that the guidance and counseling is very crucial in educational development adding that there are children who are extremely good in some abilities but can’t make right career choice that aligns with their abilities owing to poor or no guidance and counseling.

Goje praised the Commissioner Dr Augustina Godwin and His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State Dr Agbu Kefas for putting resources into rebranding the guidance and counseling units that will stand the test of time.

The committee members have already swung into action with the Hon Commissioner of Education as the Chairman, the Permanent Secretary as the Secretary of the committee while Director Guidance and Counseling and others are members.

The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Bureau for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Jalingo.
