Save the Children Nigeria has been chosen as the Grant Agent for the Global Partnership for Education funded Refugees and Host community’s education project in Nigeria. This project will be implemented in 16 local government areas across five states, including Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Benue, Cross-River, and Taraba State, over an 18-month period starting from March 1, 2024.

The project aims to address key areas such as safe, inclusive, and quality education, recovery in the medium-term, and future crisis prevention. Collaboration with federal and state education stakeholders, as well as civil society organizations and local partners, is crucial for the success of the project.

In Taraba State, the project targets 4,680 children, including both refugees and host community members, with a focus on girls, boys, and children with disabilities in refugee camps across two selected local governments: Kurmi and Sardauna. Dr. Augustina Godwin, the Commissioner of Education, praised the initiative for complementing the state’s free education policy and bringing hope to those in refugee camps.

Dr. Augustina Godwin was appointed as the Chairman of the technical committee for the project, with members drawn from various organizations and agencies involved in education and refugee support.

In attendance were the Permanent Secretary, Idris A. Goje, Secretary, and some Directors from the ministry.
